This award provides nearly $60,000, mentoring, protected research time and professional development opportunities to postdoctoral fellows in pediatrics, engineering and data science who are interested in conducting child health research. The goal of the program is to train young investigators for a career as independent researchers while also working to solve pediatric health problems.

The American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) and Science Translational Medicine are now accepting applications for the 2018 AAAS Martin and Rose Wachtel Cancer Research Award. This annual award honors early-career investigators who have performed outstanding work in the field of cancer research. Entrants must have received their PhD or MD within the last 10 years. The award winner(s) will deliver a public lecture on their research, have their essay published in Science Translational Medicine, and receive $25,000.

The National Institute of Mental Health will fund up to $1.75 million per year for applications for Silvio O. Conte Centers for Basic Neuroscience or Translational Mental Health Research. The institute seeks teams of researchers employing integrative, novel, and creative experimental approaches to address high-risk, high-impact questions in basic neuroscience or translational research with the primary objectives of: (a) advancing the state of the science in basic brain and behavior research  that will ultimately provide the foundation for understanding mental disorders; (b) supporting the integration and translation of basic and clinical neuroscience research on severe mental illnesses; and/or (c) advancing our understanding of the neurobehavioral mechanisms that begin in childhood and adolescence.
